Hi Brian,

1.) Leca is not heavy at all. The amount used to cover the bottom of a 10 ga may be just a few pounds. Way lighter than gravel.

2.) No if not kept in standing water. I have had tanks set up for years with 2-3 inches of leca. In some of my tanks, particularly the ones with standing water, the leca HAS begun to break down. It is not a solid layer, but just beginning to "chip up". (BTW-I only leave my tanks set up for a few years before I rebuild them)

3.) Again, No if not kept in standing water.

What is your alternative?

FYI-Our community is growing, but still rather small. Although it has been a few days, only a few people viewed your post. Some of which may have been guest. If you want a little quicker response, maybe let us know in the "Shout Box", Hopefully you can get help a lil faster.

Hang in there.
