You have to be really careful where you buy that moss from it could have preservatives or colors added to keep it green. The stuff I use is sold in bails to florists and I believe it's collected from the PNW but could be wrong. This stuff is not preserved just dried and I usually look for the type of moss that is fern looking because it generally grows back for me and stays alive.
