Hey all I just wanted to share I found my new Tarapoto's first egg
. She layed only one but its looks healthy. I noticed it yesterday and it has"Swollen" since then. It is located on the deep part of the brom leaf . I plan on removing it and caring for it myself, but i would like to get some other peoples opinions on this subject. Some people let their parents raise them, while others pull them from the tank. I will be housing them in an incubator that I made from a Sterilite tub. Although its really big for just one petri dish, i want to have the best chance of raising the egg to froglet. I plan on feeding a combo of Ground freeze dried bloodworm's, Tropical flake fish food, tadpole bites and some Indian almond leaf for it to munch on and also the tannins it releases. I will be using R/O for the water and will use 32oz tad cup.I will post some pics of the incubator and the egg once i pull it from tank. I am not going to remove it for at least 2 more days just to make sure the male has fertilized it. Please post your opinions on this subject as I want to hear them from you all. Also I f you have any suggestions or other steps you take to raise Thumbnails or any other species please share them with us.![]()

Congrats Sam, when ever your frogs lay eggs, it means you must be doing something right, and their living conditions are good enough for them to breed. Just a few questions. Is their first egg? or the first egg laid since you've had them. Either way, I'd leave it there. At least until you know it's developed and is swimming around. I mean, why cut the leaf if it turns out to be a bad egg.
As for raising it, artificially, I couldn't tell you much. I have always left my eggs in and allowed the parents to take care of them. My philosophy is: I can't possibly do it better than mother nature. Marc

Thanks guys
! This is the 1st clutch since i had them. I have spoken to Richard Revis at BJ and he told me a couple ways to pull them. I will wait to pull until tomorrow once I have seen some development in the egg. I will keep you all updated on the progress.

So I left the egg alone for a couple days to let the male fertilize but i dont think he did. I am unable to see and "Egg" all i see is a gel mass. I thought I notice the gel Swell but maybe not.I was prob just so excited about my 1st Tarapoto egg clutch. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas why this happened or if its something with my frogs.
---------- Post added at 01:45 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:40 AM ---------- So I found out what happened to my egg. I did some research and found that Snails and slugs will eat eggs with no hesitation. I am so bummed. I will be building them a new tank and will post it once its completed. What a drag, i was so excited to. Oh I also read a couple was to get them out of the tank but it doesn't "cure" the problem. Lettuce and cucumber Will work. What you do is place "bait" in tank in the evening and in the morning it should be covered with slugs or snails.Although this will get allot of them out, it will not remove them all.

Hey I saw a particular method on another forum where dry ice was used to get rid of pests in the tank. I guess the basic concept is that the dry ice takes all the oxygen out of the viv and kills everything, except the plants.
