Default Snails and eggs

I recently purchased some Tarapotos from a collector in Cali. When I was examining his tanks I noticed they had snails. I asked him if they were bad and he said no. So I brought my new frogs home and within 3 days of me having them I had found my 1st clutch of eggs. There was only 1 and was a milky white color. The next day I went to check on the egg to see if i can observe any development, but when I looked all I saw was a gel mass. I couldn't understand what had happened. So i did some research on egg care and breeding and I found out that snails and slugs will eat the eggs. I am not sure how the snails got into his tank but if you notice any snails or slugs remove them immediately. You can use a couple methods if its not a developed community of snails to remove them completely. Lettuce, cabbage, cucumber, and dead FF will attract them. Place in tank at night before lights out and in the morn they should be covering the veggies. you might have to repeat the process a few times but if its where you have allot of big snails and really small ones then that means they are breeding and to remove them all a co2 soak might work but also might kill all your plants. At that point a full substrate and drainage change would be recommended.

Hey Sam.

The Lettuce, cabbage, and cucumber method is a good idea. But as far as the CO2 soak, it is harmless to your plants. Actually it will kill everything living in your tank that needs oxygen to live and will do your plants a world of good. If you were to use this method, your should see a nice growth spurt in your plants.

The plants would live? I thought that if you do a Co2 soak for bugs and leave the Co2 in for long time it can damage your plants. Basically like Co2 poisoning. I dunno i just know plants need a combo of oxygen and Co2. I have seen it it happen or maybe the plants death was caused by something else(parasite, disease). Any info regarding a Co2 soak would be good to hear. Has anyone ever done a Co2 soak for pests??

Thats interesting to know about CO2. But wouldnt you think if you killed of alot of snails in your tank all at one time. That all that unwanted waste is going to spoil your substrate?

Co2 is what plants need to thrive on that's what we humans exhale out and we inhale o2 and other gases. Co2 would be like a co2 bar like the oxygen bar in Los Angeles ( I think it's L.A.)....
