Well I have done java moss and ricca before but thats in a planted aquarium. I think java moss is more forgiving then ricca as far as having it always being wet. I know that java moss tend to do better if they have something to hold on too like drift wood or some kind of ornament. Ricca never seen it out of water before but when I had my planted tank it needed alot of light and CO2.

I always thought that the deco moss was dead to. But it looked just like the stuff I was paying almost $10-15 for at shows and online. Then I spoke to Andy at BKLN Darts. He told me he uses it too. Look at Andy's pics in Brooklyn Dart Frog's albums. His mosses are a combo of long fiber sphagnum moss and different types of sheet moss. They look awesome! Like he said before, the trick is lots of misting.

Just to add to the moss subject it's alway good to get the live tropical where it does not have a dormant stage. The type of moss here in North America is similar to that of the tropics but the down fall is that it has to have a dromant stage or it will die eventually. Also to add another way to get plants that you know that doesn't have any pesticide or harmful persticide is nursuries that are organic meaning no chemicals what so ever. I'm lucky that I have aunts that have bromeliad galore with no treatments.

I used to pick it up at the shows or Black Jungle, but my good Andy put on to something new. The regular sheet moss you can get at arts and crafts stores like Michael's, and AC Moore, or any florist works fine, if your get it when its green. I tried it, and it is already starting to catch already in my new vivs. I found this at Michael's. It was $5. That's about what I spend at the shows.

Here is a pic of what I tried. It was very green and took nice.

Marc,
You have to be really careful where you buy that moss from it could have preservatives or colors added to keep it green. The stuff I use is sold in bails to florists and I believe it's collected from the PNW but could be wrong. This stuff is not preserved just dried and I usually look for the type of moss that is fern looking because it generally grows back for me and stays alive.
