So I went out this past weekend and did some camping in the San Jacinto Mountains and got some Manzanita. I have been researching on how to treat Ghostwood for Viv use. Just to clarify "Ghostwood" is dead wood that has dried out. I plan on soaking the wood for 24 hours and then scrubbing the wood with steel wool. After I clean off all debris I will put in the oven for 30 mins at 350 degrees. Once pulled from oven I will let it dry out an additional 24 hours. I will post some before and after pics.
Ok so what I did was I soaked the manzanita in the tub for almost 3 days. When I felt they were pretty saturated, I scrubbed the pieces. I used a normal dish sponge but also the wire sponge. Not brillo pad, but the other one. I set oven at 300 and put the pieces in. Baked for 35 min's. Removed and let cool. Pieces look great. Step 1: Soak Pieces in tub for 48 hours ![]() Step 2: Scrub pieces and set oven at 300 and bake for 35 Min's. ![]() Step 3: Remove pieces and let cool. Be careful they are HOT! ![]() I haven't used any of the pieces yet , but I will post pics when I do. P.S. If you soak in your tub, be ready with the tub cleaner. ![]() Sam
