A knock knock at the door and what do I find? The postman delivering my MistKing system. Ofcourse I immediately unpacked it.....
First things first, count everything. Check! Now comes the fun part, replacing all the white Collets with black ones, and all the blue Collet Locks with black ones. This is the amount I used, minus a few that broke on the way out..... After that, I temporarily installed the pump on a foot stool and installed all the nozzles in the tank and ran them one at a time to get thier orientation correct..... I wasted a huge amount of water getting that done. All in all I went through 6L which is about 12 days worth =) This is no problem however as I have drains. It takes about 30 seconds from the time I pour 1L into the tank and the excess works it's way into the drain bucket. After that I simply ran my lines..... Once the lines are all run, there is not much left to do but hook up the pump. Here is how my system looks with completely black MistKing misting and drain systems..... Here is a diagram to explain the layout: All in all, the system is awesome. The components are fairly priced for the high quality you are getting. Shipping is reasonable, Marty is a pleasure to do business with, and everything looks great. Last edited by JustinF; 06-05-2009 at 05:09 PM.. |

Very nice set up. Clean and organized. Your frogs will undoubtedly enjoy their new home.

Is the resevoir that clear plastic water jug?
I don't have an automatic misting system....yet.....but someone once told me that the resevoir should be blacked out to prevent aerobic microbes and bacteria that thrive in lighted conditions. He also had a UV sterilyzer hooked up to it too... ...just some things I heard...

Yes the water jug is the is the reservoir. It's rather small so that the water does not sit in it too long and start growing things.
I'm not really sure what you heard regarding light and "aerobic microbes and bacteria", but I assure you there are plenty of things that will grow plenty fine in the dark. Aerobic means that it needs Oxygen to survive. That has nothing to do with light. Sterile water is sterile water, anything that grows in it would have to be introduced. For example, have you ever seen bottled water come in black bottles? Secondly, a UV sterilizer needs a very specific set of water flow and container volume parameters to achieve an efectively kill rate depending what you are trying to kill. It would be worth while if you have a container of misting water that was perpetually full because it is automatically filled with water from a RO/DI, but even then it wouldnt stop things from growing. Many UV sterilizers have quartz sleeve wipers installed on them because things still grow with UV, in fact right on the quartz sleeve. |

I know exactly what Aerobic means and nope....haven't seen too many black water bottles in 7-11 lately. Like I said....this is something I heard...not something I'm familiar with. I don't think you are familiar with it either. Anyhoo....good luck with it. It looks nice. PS....I really doubt you have sterile water in there.

Hey Justin,
Regarding things growing......I initially had white tubes and there was always algae growing in the tubes (clogging my nozzles). One factor may have been that the lights in the area that I used promoted plant growth. Then I converted to black tubes and that really helped. (Looks like that won't be prob for you) The other thing was that I put an air pump with a small air stone in the reservoir to prevent the water from becoming stagnant.

Rain water. I collect it in 5 gallon orange Home Depot buckets (w/tops) each time it rains. I drilled a 1/4 inch hole in the top for the air line. In the winter I use melted snow. If neither is available I use aged tap water.
