The temp should never get that low but I'm in Michigan so I would rather be safe then sorry. So I figured buying a $20 heater to have in the false bottom to heat the viv would be better then not having one.
As for the Hydroton is there a good size to go with? |

I guess if you had some freak accident/occurence you would always have it, but I can't see what that occurence would be. The downside would be if the heater malfunctions and cooks/electrocutes your frogs. Heat is much more detrimental to darts than cold. Safe may be not to plug one in.
The size of the hydroton I use is about the size of a marble. Rich
