Default GS and Pots

So I went to HD and went to buy some GS witch I have done many times before. When i got to the isle I noticed there was a can of GS but it was in a Baby blue aerosol can. I normally use the GS that comes in a yellow can but when i read the label on the blue label it says it cures flexible and it wont bow windows or door frames. I have had problems with the normal GS bowing my pots i put in for potted plants. So I tried this stuff so far it is working great and haven't had any problems with it bowing my pots.I must say it is allot fluffier than the norm, but not to fluffy. Anyways I just wanted to share that with you all.

Thanks Sam,
I thought about grabbing that a few times, but like most folks, I stick to what I know. I have like 7 cans of the red GS, and I am pretty much finished making tanks for a while. All coated and ready to plant.
Thanks a for sharing.

I might worry about its holding power, do you have it holding anything heavy?

Ya it holds up well.I have a 12x12x18 i am setting up for some Tarapoto's and its holding up 2 pieces of driftwood. I havent even completely GS the whole back of tank.I also kinda pulled on the driftwood to see if it would dislodge itself, but its holding strong. This GS works great!

I found that the GS doesn't hold well to the glass. You either have to coat the glass with silicone before you use the GS OR put the GS directly on the glass and then make sure there is a strong seal al the way around where the GS meets the glass. Basically the second method seals the GS (or whatever foam you use) to the glass.

I dunno Marc, The GS I use sticks very well to glass. If I make a mistake I have to use razor blade to remove from glass. I use 2 types of GS one with a yellow can and the other is a baby blue can. Both have stuck to glass great for me. I actually have had more problems with it sticking to Silicone. One piece of advice, when the gs seams dry, it really isn't. It takes a straight 48 hours for it to completely cure.So if you wait 3 hours and poke it and its hard, just remember If you tend to trim or carve the GS it may bow or suck itself in. Example" Say you cut a piece of GS because it expanded to a size you don't lik , So you carve and hit a soft spot where GS is still curing. It will start to shoot out of the dry GS and make a big mess.I have encountered this a couple times and can be a real pain the butt. Also if you cant find GS then the DAP insulation foam will work as well.

I used to think the same thing about the GS, until I put a piece of Malaysian Drift Wood in the GS and the weight of the DW caused the GS to pull away from the glass. Otherwise it worked fine. Keep in mind, Malaysian DW is very dense and heavy. So, when I wet it, it weighed even more. I just re-enforce the GS with silicone to be safe.

I have encountered that myself but it usually only happened when i tried to rush the setup of the tank. I use Mazanita and malaysian driftwood. I will put some pics on how I built my 1st Viv.Has about 5 or 6 pieces of Malaysian DW and its holding up great. One thing that comes to mind that would cause GS to detach itself would be a dirty surface and/or bad silicone job. Like I said I have had this happen to me and did the same thing to fix the problem as Knox did.

Here is my 1st viv i made awhile back, In it I have 8 pieces of DW and 4 water features.

Very Nice Pics Sam,
I think my prob was a combination of all three. There may have had a lil dust on the glass, the wood was very heavy and protruded far from the background, and I didn't silicone it all the way around the GS properly.
