Post Beginner Thumbnails

So I wanted to start a thread that will help beginners as well as some intermediate froggers figure out witch Thumbnails are good for them to start with or move on to.

For the beginners I recommend either D. Ventrimaculatus or D. Imitator( Standard or Intermedius). They are easy to find, reasonably priced, Bold, and their enclosures are easy to setup. The Temperature inside tank can range from 70-80 degrees with a humidity of 100% or no lower than 80%. As for breeding they are actually pretty easy. They are non Obligatory egg Feeders witch means they don't need the female's feeder eggs to grow, so you can either let the parents raise the tads or you can pull the eggs and raise them yourself. If pulled, tads should be raised individually as they are cannibalistic, although some keepers will raise them communally, I believe they should be raised in their own cups to ensure all tads grow and morph properly. Eggs are laid in Film cannisters, on the glass, plants, and bromeliad leafs. Thumbnails are Arboreal frogs witch means they will mostly reside in the upper part of the tank in the plants and the front and sides of the tank. Because of their small size Thumbnails should be fed either one large feeding or 2 small feedings a day and dust every other day. They will consume around 10 to 15 flies per frog so if you have 3 provide enough for them all. If a frog has to compete for food, he/she might become less dominant and weak, possibly resulting in death or anorexia. Yes frogs can get obese or anorexic. This is based on my experience and knowledge of these frogs.

Some species not recommended for beginner thumbnails are, Amazonicus, Fantasticus, Reticulatus, and Lamasi's.

Feel free to add anything I may have missed.

Sam

Just to add when people say beginner people tend to think care wise but really its more like husbandry... That's why people go with the mentioned frogs to start off with first because they can be easily bred.... Just my 2 cents..
