Just one quick question. Would a 10 gallon all glass tank be ok for a pair of dart frogs? I dont know what species yet but would that matter? If Possible I plan on having many of this size tanks but I plan on putting just one pair in each and they will be planted no water features some with backgrounds and some without.

Hey there! Yes a 10g would be ok for a pair. If you purchase the frogs as babies you may decide to make them a bigger tank in the future. Its just the way it goes. Building their enclosure and watching it grow is just as interesting as the frogs...and just as addicting

It also depends on how the tank in made. One could fill a large portion of the viv using Great Stuff and not get a full 10 gallons of room. The layout is very important. Many people have used 10s for breeding darts. But many more are realizing that it is best to use the biggest viv you can accommodate. The bigger, the better. Rich

The thing is that I have 7 10g tanks and I would like to put them to use. I dont own any dart frogs currently Im doing alot of reading first. I dont plan on using GS on the 10g since they are so small. I plan on putting a pair of different types of species in each tank in hopes of them breeding. Im not going to fill all the tanks right away because I dont have the experience yet but maybe starting off with a pair or two. I do have confidence in myself and I believe I will do well. I currently have a 75 gallon reef tank setup for a year now and its doing very well and its my first reef tank. Do you guys think Im in the right track so far?? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!!

Welcome to DFF Kenny! If U are successfully keeping a reef tank than U R on the right track!
Believe me dart frog keeping is in my opinion 10x easier than a salt water tank. I myself had want to try it and still hoping on some day to have a salt water fish tank but it does seem a little challenging. And yes a 10 gal. is fine to start w/ a pair. Perhaps with some Leucomelas or Aurutus, maybe a pair of Azureus to start but they do get a lttle bigger you experience and see they might need something a little bigger in the future. See the tincs and some others do get a little big so try a 20 gal. to start for a pair. Maybe you heard the rule of thumb is 5 gal. for every frog. Since U have extra tanks hold on to them and if you have success w/ the first pair of darts you might use your other tanks to keep babies or other pairs of smaller darts. I think you have the idea! Good luck and just have fun w/ the Poison Dart Frog addiction man! |
