Once you have researched the frog you want and have the Tank all setup(Planted and acclimated) it will then be time to purchase your frog(s). If you get froglets they can each eat up to 20 - 30 FF. If you like to mix up their diet like I do then a normal froglet can eat up to 15 -20 pinheads at one sitting. Springtails on the other hand are really cool. If you put a culture into your viv you will provide the frog(s) with a replenishing food source on top of their normal feedings. Sub-Adult and Adults can eat up to 50 FF or 30-35 pinheads. The reason they eat less pinheads than FF is because pinheads are fatty and are a little bit bigger than a normal FF.

I feed my frogs every other day. Sometimes a lil less ford but once a day. I usually stick to FF, but I also have Thumbnails and Pumilio. I know a few guys that have tried the bean beetles for their larger DF's and swear by them.

Purpleorchid, do you have any frogs yet? If yes, you should get flies ASAP. If not then you should prepare for their arrival along with your frogs. Making sure your frogs have enough food on hand is going to be one of your biggest challenges. The size of your frog will determine which if the two size FF's you should use. If you have larger frogs, then you can feed both types of FF's, and supplement their diet with crickets and bean beetles. If you have thumbnails then you should stick to the Melanos.

My frogs are like jabba the hut obese mofos. Just playin I feed mine once a day and that's it. It's very true that these frogs can and will get obese if given the opportunity. If you have flying FF's it's actually good for them because it's exercise and you'll actually see them hunt. Give it a try....

I feed every other day with alternating vitamin supplements like DendroCare, and Rep-Cal Products. I also alternate what flies I use as well. I use Turkish Gliders and Wingless, as well as the occasional termites and LOTS of springtails and silverfish. I feed enough that I know will last every other day, trial and error will have to be tested. In my opinion although many may or may not agree with me, the better the diet variation the better the health of the frog. Remember not to over feed as they can get obese fast and of course under feeding will and can kill them. PS: Termites are awesome as a treat, but do not feed males and NO QUEENS! Well that's my two cents. LOL
![]() ---------- Post added at 04:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:46 PM ---------- The best to me are the Melangasters. They produce fast and in vast numbers in a shorter period of time than the Hydei, but the Hydei are a little bit bigger BUT by not that much. I had a long conversation on that one, on who is the biggest and Hydei wins by a hair in my opinion in size comparison. LOL
