Talking Are my frogs finding there Food

I have a pair of D. Auratus and my question is: are they able to find their fruit flies in the moss?
when I feed them they start eating and then the flies start making their way into the moss so I can't tell if the frogs are getting their share of flies, when I mist the viv the flies start making their way out again then the frogs
start getting another crack at them if they are around to see them. Any advise would be grateful.

Hi Dave,

I have two questions before I give a response. How big is your tank and how many flies do you feed per feeding. I have always found that the larger the enclosure, the more flies I had to feed. And as long as you add enough flies, the frogs will eventually find them. I try to feed my frogs daily, but if I open the tank and there are still a good amount of flies from the prior days feeding, I usually hold off until later in the day, or the next day.

A good technique I learned from my Andy at Brooklyn Dartfrogs is to put a piece of a banana on a petri dish. Now, I simply put apple slices in the floor of the tank. They don't rot as fast as the banana, and are easier to replace. The flies will stay around the apple, and the frogs will learn to go there for food.

Good Luck,

Hope this helps.

I appreciate everyone here. Without you, there would be no DFF. Thank you for your support.

I have a pair of D. Auratus in a 20 gal. long tank and I'm feeding about 60 or more flies per feeding daily, I'm not really counting
thats just a rough estimate, But I'll try the apple slices. Thanks Knoxter
