It would depend on a few things. What species and how big/old? Is the tank seeded with any isopods, springtails or the like? And how hard would it be to say " Mom, you take the fly culture, dump the flies into this mix of supplements, and dump this amount of flies into the viv one time while I am gone..."? Rich

I have a pair of D. Auratus and as far age they probably almost adults, the tank is seeded with other FF that manage to escape by burying themselves in the moss (quite a bit), but I guess I can put some flies in a couple of small containers with supplements mix
already added and ask her to dump a container in the viv twice while I'm gone. Thank you Rich Dave |

If you put a culture in there on it's own they should be fine. At about a week you really don't need to worry too much about adults. I've had frogs live on seeded stuff for months without external feeding. Rich

What I have been doing for several years now is simply punch out one of the felt type holes of the FF container covers (2 holes if there are 4 or more "big" darts) and put the entire container in the viv. What I have found best is to use cultures that have been set up about 6 or 7 days ago as you then get the "old" ff plus new hatchings too. Just did it for a week with 4 vivs and all containers still had some FF crawling out of the hole when I returned yesterday.

Hey Jack that's a great idea I'll try that because I was afraid that if I leave the lid off
there would be a chance that one or both of my Auratus would get trapped with the excelsior. Thanks a bunch Dave |
