Sterilizing and drying Magnolia leaves

I've been doing lots of research and see that Magnolia leaves make great leaf litter for the vivariums. I have two huge magnolia trees and 3 magnolia bushes around the house, and we live out in the country. Is there any reason I wouldn't be able to dry the leaves of these and use them?

If so, then my question is - how do you sterilize the leaves? Also, what is the best way to dry them?

With our mag leaves we boil them, and then bake them in the oven for a few minutes.
