I believe that if you have a little girl that young with snakes that can get big the owner should have been more responsible with his snake... Stories like this make you think that some people should not have animals that could kill... Fingers cross that 669 does not affect us hobbyist.

That is so sad! I feel for the family. I couldn't imagine the horror.
![]() I agree with Socaled. It is up to the owner to make every precaution, if not get rid of the animal when small children are involved.

I saw a news clip on this.....it was an 8 foot Albino burm....looked thin and had lacerations near its head, presumably from being stabbed to release the girl.
I wonder what the size, weight and height of the girl was. The snake didn't look big enough to attempt a feeding of this sort.

I wanted to know more info so I started looking around other forums and what not. The size of the snake goes from 8' on some sites and on several sites are saying the snake was 12'. ( 2-year-old Florida girl killed by pet snake Police: Pet Python Strangled Central Florida Girl - cbs4.com ) Regardless, Phil there is something missing in this story. I hate assuming anything but facts don't all add up unless I missed something. On another forum, of course it was hearsay, said that the owner didn't have a lid and that he found it in the living room and put it back in the aquarium. I am sure there is no real truth in it. I am sure you know I saw that.
PICS: Police: Charges Expected Against Python Owner in Florida Toddler's Strangling Death - Local News | News Articles | National News | US News - FOXNews.com Small snake (Width size)! My forearm is bigger than the width of that snake. I can see why you wonder what size, etc of the child is. I know snakes can strangle and kill even at that size, but we'll see. I am pretty sure this is far from over. Another take on the story: http://origin.foxnews.com/story/0,29...35,00.html?mrp I am noticing as I go through the sites. There are a lot of different versions of 911 calls and info. I am not sure what to think other than disgust that a child is dead because of negligence.

Wow, that hits close to home with me. My son is 2 and that would just kill me. I couldn't imagine what I would do or who I would blame. My heart goes out to them.

Yep.......do NOT close the book on this incident and assume everything bad happened the way it is reported.
1. It's the local news.....NEWS........everyone knows better than to blindly assume that reported stories are "fact". 2. There are a lot of criminal incident that are covered up or disguised. It is absolutely possible that this incident is "not what it may seem"......that's all i'm going to say about that. 3. Certain animal rights groups have agendas and are known to be aggressive with regards to press and their points of view. Nothing will bring that little girl back and that's always going to be the real trajety.

Agreed, the owner should be absolutely vigilant in the protection of both his animals and his family, family first of course.
