The dangers of Carnivorous Plants...
I just want people to be aware of the various dangers using Carnivorous Plants. Things to look for is the type of plant and its functions, as well as the size of the frog and its requirements. That's the most important thing. The Nepenthes species of carnivorous plant is quite harmful to Thumbnail species of dart frogs and also to froglets, as they can get trapped and get tired. The eventually give up and are slowly eaten as if they were a fly or relative insect. The general rule is if a frog can not get out, don't use it. That's with everything, building, etc. unless you can modify it to be safe for the animal. Larger species of dart frogs can get in and out without any problems. Any frogs that are small enough to get inside any carnivorous plants pose a real danger to the animal. Now there are other Nepenthes out there that can grow quite large and affect any frog but these plants in "normal" situations in terrarium building, etc. are not used in terrariums, vivariums, etc. unless it is a massive habitat. The plant used or spoken of is only an example of what is out there. There are heck of a lot of carnivorous plants out there, so choose carefully. ![]() PS: I have heard larger frogs using pitcher plants as a place to raise their young, but I am little more paranoid on that issue. LOL Just A Friendly Tip: Do not put Venus Fly Traps in a terrarium, etc. as they normally do not fair well and the can be quite costly depending on the size, species and variation (Of course this is in my opinion and personal experience.).

I have seen some really cool Carnivorous plant tanks. Here in San Diego we have The Del Mar Fair and they have man made landscapes with various plants to display natural habitats around the world. Really cool. That is where I saw the carnivorous plant tank. The plants are really bizarre and fascinating to watch. But thanks for posting this GAFrogs I was wondering myself if any carnivorous plants would be OK for the Viv.

Just to add that some north american carnivorous plants need a dormant stage I wouldn't reccomend using any in your vivs. The tropical version are a good chose but like GA stated do some research because some of these plants can an will thrive in your perfect enviroment YOUR VIVS... and eat your frogs
