Hey, I have tried a few other forums but they werent really active.
I am new to frogs but I have kept many different pets. I have a 46g tank and am moving on may 1st. so all the fish I have in there are going to a friends tank. I was thinking of doing a PDF tank. I love the way they look and move and also the size of the frogs. I am a noob and need some help. I have seen people posting pictures of how they set up their vivs but I am still not crystal clear as to "how" they are set up. Being this is my first "official" frog tank I wanna plan things out as much as I can. I have read care sheets but alot of people have mixed ideas as to how to make things work. I was thinking of doing a false bottom with a pond, waterfall, fogger *light fog* and possibly a rain system *if I have the money and can figure it out*. I would just like ideas and suggestions and possibly some kind of detailed help as to how to make the background 3D like most of you have and how to set things up. and also what kind of substrate and if pebbles would be better then a false bottom. I know its alot but any help would be appreciated. ![]() Last edited by Neurotic; 04-09-2009 at 11:21 AM.. |

Hey, Welcome to the site. I have set up a ton of tanks and there are many, many different ways to do it. The first thing you should do is determine the tanks use. ie show tank, breeding tank, mixed, etc. That will give you a lil direction. Because a breeding tank set up for a pair of frogs doesn't have to be the same size or be as automated as a show tank that houses a group of frogs. I use to try to make all my tanks into large show tanks. And most of what I wanted in my setups was not necessary for the frogs. It was not until I went to Black Jungle and saw their many different set ups. Some were simple and some were extravagant, but even the simple ones were very nice. Sometimes simple is better. But it seems like, by you statement ("false bottom with a pond, waterfall, fogger *light fog* and possibly a rain system") you wanna "do-it-up". None of those things you mentioned are necessary for the frogs. They are all aesthetics for you. When it comes to building you tank, remember preference is everything and you imagination is your limit. (LOL you just mentioned several different good forum topics, false bottom vs leca, water fall or not, fogger vs misting sys).
I will offer you this.....I just built 6 Exo Terra Tanks 24x18x18. 2 were false bottom and everything else all natural. 2 were that had Great Stuff and Malaysian drift wood on the sides and a leca substrait. 2 that had the Malaysian DW glued to the sides. I left the orig Exo back in all of them. Oh, and I also made a 18" Exo cube that had GS on both sides and the back. All are gonna be attached to a misting system. All a lil bit different. It is really up to you. Here are a few pics. They aren't done yet. This is the one with the false bottom and nothing else This one has GS and Malaysian DW attached to the sides. Orig Exo Back This one has the DW glued right to the sides of the glass ![]() 18" cube with sides and back covered in GS and a pc of DW I am in the process of building a construction journal for some of my new tanks, but if you have specific questions about the false bottom, building a pond or waterfall, adding a fogger or misting rain system, create a thread for each topic. It would be tough for someone to answer all the question in one thread/post. Each topic deserves its own discussion. Again, welcome to the site, Marc
