Default Another New from Chicago!

hi! I'm new to this forum and new to dart frogs. In fact, I'm new to keeping frogs period! and boy am I having fun!

As it turns out, it seems I got a male and a female. I hadn't planned on breeding, but I'm going to go with the flow. My Chicago Reptile store guy is a great source of info. I'm adding huts, upping their feed, watching for breeding activity and see what happens.

If anything DOES happen, I'm sure i'll be posting with questions - OMG what do I do now?!?

I just wanted to introduce myself to this gorgeous site. I've posted one picture of one of my beauts and i'll be posting a video soon.

SO glad I found this forum! Can't wait to get down to reading,

All the best,

Julie

Welcome Julie,
Which store did you get your frogs from? Was it the Chicago Reptile House?
I'm in Chicago also. There are a few cool shows around Chicagoland.

Hey Rich,

I got mine from BlackJungle.com. I didn't know about the Chicago Reptile House at that time. (I'm REALLY a newbie!) AND, the CRH i'm talking about is actually their Orland Park location. That guy is really cool. He's a biology major and has been very helpful to me. he sold me spring tails to add to my tank and is working on cultures of firebrats and isopods. I would like to help him make a website for his store - the guy is so into it!

Tell me, please some other stores in the area. I'm not acutally IN Chicago. I'm in Hinsdale.

Julie,
There are really very few standing dart stores. For a few reasons. Darts are really such a specialty item, and the mark-up needed to let the stores make any money really prohibits stores from doing well with them. They also are much more difficult to work with than your average pet shop animal. What species did you get ?

There is Scott Smith's show every other weekend in Wheaton ( but only a couple dart vendors) and I and running another Mid East Frog Feast in September. That show will be pretty much all darts with about twenty vendors.

Wheaton is only about half an hour from me, but if there aren't many dart vendors, it won't be worth going.

Where will you be holding your show?

Julie

I'll be vending at Smith's in about two months. It's a cool show to check out if you are into any other herps also. Lots of vendors (about 100).
My show will be in Mt. Prospect , about 15 minutes from O' Hare
That looks like a Bakhuis Tinc. But I'm not positive. It is very important to confirm exactly which morph you have, so later down the line, when you breed them, you can pass along that info to those who end up with your offspring.

Thanks for your input on my tinct. i'll try to get better views.

I live 15 in Hinsdale, not far from O'Hare. I'm sure you'll post on this site when your show date approaches. I will want to be there!

Did you end up getting that info on your tinc species?

I just called Black Jungle this morning. I got a voice mail, but they are great - I know they'll call me back. My worry is that they may not get the same morph all the time and may not have kept a record of what they sent me.

But that's my first step, anyway.

I'll let you know when I hear from them.
